Global warming heats me up

Few things annoy me more than ignorant people who pretend to be experts.

I find it particularly offensive considering we are each individually responsible for our own educations.

Basically, we have two choices. We can keep our mouths shut about things we don't know or seek out resources to educate ourselves.

Sadly, global warming tends to be an issue about which many people have not done enough research to even broach the subject.

Encounters with bouts of ignorance have tested my nerves (to say the least) in the past two weeks.

It seems people who should not be talking tend to do so in very public forums.

The first accost of my senses came while reading an article in which a woman was quoted as saying the reality of global warming is no longer contested.

Having knowledge of many scientists who object to much of the evidence presented in favor of the warming phenomenon, I know that is not accurate.

It is very much so still contested.

However, it was not until later in the week that I had a revelation. During a debate, two students brought up evidence for and against global warming.

Astonished that neither of them got any of their "facts" correct, I realized there is such a lack of a united front on this issue it would be hard for most to have an intelligent conversation about climate change without doing extensive research.

It's easy for people to believe in man-made global warming. It's on TV all the time.

Over and over we hear, "ice melting," "polar bears in danger," "rising water," "ice melting," "polar bears in danger," "rising water," "ice melting," "polar bears in danger," "rising water," etc.

Fox News admits to planting global warming messages in their programs, and I'm sure they aren't the only network doing this.

But while we are pumped full of these messages, side notes in the broadcasts tell us we are experiencing record low temperatures and the polar bear population is growing.

The problem of global warming is very serious. People must solve it.
