Thousands packed into the vibrant Uptown Theater Wednesday night to get an up-close glimpse at new rock band Halestorm and the show's headliner, Chevelle.
Doors opened at 7 p.m. and by the time After Midnight Project, the opening band, took the stage, it was a full house. The brightly painted, unique architecture and liveliness of the theater itself incited a "feel good" vibe for the evening.
However, the crowd was almost too laid back for such a high-wired show.
Most on-lookers in the upper balcony sat throughout the entirety of the concert until being called out by Chevelle's lead guitarist and vocalist. Yet, the crowd was soon to be unknowingly hypnotized.
Lzzy Hale, vocalist of the band Halestorm, crept onto the stage to belt out a heavenly acappella that captivated the crowd. No doubt the tiny-framed woman was showing off her best ability. Hale commanded the audience's attention and shook the house with her tremendous and raspy voice.
It was undeniable the rock world has encountered a new and amazingly talented female lead whose stage presence is nothing but grasping.
Halestorm kicked off the show with their recent single, "I'm in Love with Somebody (and it's not you)." Hale, dressed in a skin-tight, black and white striped, low-cut jumpsuit, played to the crowd as well as her band.
Both guitarists and the drummer showed off their skills just as much as Hale did. By exemplifying their showmanship and doing it in unison, the band produced that cool "jam band" feel, even though they have clearly hit fame.
Halestorm's drummer, Arejay Hale, showed off his talents with an explosive drum solo which was later joined by the rest of the band to create an amazing percussion set that put the crowd in awe.
Halestorm rocked out the rest of their set with hits like "Dirty Work" and closed with their first single, "I Get Off."
Once Nivens from 98.9 The Rock, sponsor of the show, announced the arrival of Chevelle, the dynamics of the crowd changed.
