Both UMKC's men's and women's soccer teams fell short of wins in overtime Saturday afternoon at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field. The teams put a great effort forward but couldn't commit the wins. The final tally in both matches was 2-1.

The men started the day with a match against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The Roos came out strong with a great chance at scoring within the second minute. Unfortunately, junior John Bayron Sosa's shot went high, hitting the crossbar. The Roos had plenty of opportunities to score in the first half with nine shot attempts (Oakland only had five).

Early in the second half, freshman David Sarabia headed a ball into Oakland's net, putting the first score on the board and taking a 1-0 lead.

UMKC managed to hold the lead for almost 40 minutes of play before Oakland responded with a header and sent the ball past UMKC keeper Ken Cooper to tie the match. During the closing minutes of regular play, neither team managed to get a good look, sending the game into a 10-minute sudden death overtime.

After making four saves during the match, Cooper couldn't manage to stop an attack shot into the net in the sixth minute of overtime, ending the game and securing the win for Oakland.

The women followed the men with their final inaugural season game against Centenary College.

The game saw even play throughout the first half, but Centenary managed to put the first point on the scoreboard with a free kick into the top left corner of the net.

The game looked to be heading in Centenary's favor before UMKC put on a push in the closing minutes of the match. Freshman Alyssa D'Egidio then found a rebound off Centenary's crossbar, dropped the ball with a header into the goal and put the game in overtime.

In the last minute of overtime, UMKC keeper Jami Finnell didn't manage to get in front of a shot by Centenary, ending the game with a 2-1 finish. Finnell ended the game with eight saves and UMKC had four shots on Centenary's box.

The women closed out their first season of play with an overall record of 1-17-1, and a 1-8 record in Summit League play.

The men will play their last regular-season Summit League game this Saturday at Fort Wayne, Ind. versus Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne.
