A&S Student Council host Job and Internship Fair
Though unemployment is down, some are still finding it difficult to find a job.
This can be especially true for recent college graduates. The Arts and Sciences Student Council (ASSC) would like to help students get their foot in the door.
To assist students with their career search, ASSC is holding a Job and Internship Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 17 at the University Center in Pierson Auditorium.
The fair will feature more than 40 local and national employers.
Register for the fair at www.connectdiversity.com or call 866-646-5955 for more information.
School of Pharmacy dean search begins
The search for a new Dean of the School of Pharmacy is underway at UMKC.
Lora Lacey-Haun, dean of the School of Nursing, will serve as chair of the search committee.
The committee consists of 16 representatives from the staff, student body, administration, alumni and community. The firm of Greenwood Asher and Associates will also assist with the search.
The search committee will begin the process as soon as possible with the intent of completing the process by the end of the spring 2010 semester.
Partnership to provide Doctor of Pharmacy program
at Missouri State
UMKC and Missouri State University (MSU) signed an agreement on Sept. 8 to allow MSU students to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UMKC.
When the satellite program is implemented, MSU students will be able to complete courses through distance learning and satellite technology, linking them to UMKC from their campus in Springfield, Mo.
"This is a great example of two universities combing expertise and resources to solve one of the state of Missouri's pressing problems," Dr. Michael T. Nietzel, President of MSU, said in a press release.
Based on data from the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, Missouri will have a shortage of 700 pharmacists by the year 2012. The UMKC-MSU program will be implemented to address this problem.
Curriculum of the UMKC-MSU program will be the same as the curriculum currently offered at UMKC.
The program will launch when the two universities secure a sustaining appropriation from the Missouri General Assembly to the University of Missouri to support the program.
