One of the most overlooked aspects of UMKC is how much it has to offer students. Whether you are a new student or simply looking for things to do on campus, UMKC has plenty to offer.
Here is a list of resources to help students of all ages make the most of time spent at UMKC.
Get involved: UMKC has a variety of student organizations.
From Greek Life to the Activities and Programming Council, Institute for Leadership and Service and UNews, this campus has it all.
Other organizations include Mercury Association (the communications club), LGBT and Student Government Association. Whatever your interest, there's a club or organization for everybody.
Getting involved is a great way to meet new people and make a difference on campus.
Use the campus facilities: UMKC has many facilities for student use.
Swinney Recreational Center is a popular one. It's here - you might as well take advantage of it. Swinney has a pool, a full workout facility, a basketball court and so much more.
It even offers classes to take during the semester such as spinning and Pilates.
And the best part is, it's included in students' tuition fees, so there are no additional costs unless you sign up for extra classes.
Hit up the local eats: There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance of campus.
Muddy's Coffeehouse is good for more than just coffee - it provides an excellent atmosphere for studying or meeting up with friends.
Pizza 51 is a winner at any time of day with their pizzas and wraps.
The Peanut is not only a fun bar, but it has a lot of history (it's the oldest bar in Kansas City).
Take advantage of the local treasures: Making the most of your time at UMKC can extend off campus too.
And there are several free things to do close to campus.
Loose Park has a splash pool and a walking trail. It's a great place to go alone, with friends or even your dog.
Kauffman Gardens includes three landscape designs, showcasing nature at its finest.
Your time at UMKC doesn't have to be solely about school.
There are plenty of things to do and places to go, even if you're on a budget. It's all about knowing your options.
