Teams compete at APC's Family Fued night in Pierson Auditorium.

Family feuds can get nasty. But last Wednesday in Pierson Auditorium, the feuds were all in fun.

You may have seen it on TV - Family Feud, the game show that pits two families against each other for a chance to win cash prizes.

The Activity & Program Council [APC] brought its own version of the game show to UMKC last Wednesday.

"It's just an environment for students to have fun," Olivia Ighoyivwi, APC Senior Events Coordinator, said.

APC held three games with three rounds each.

The grand prize for each game was $400 in gift cards to stores on the Country Club Plaza.

"We wanted students to win some money," Ighoyivwi said. "A lot of students need money. We are in a recession."

For those of you who don't know how the game works, contestants are asked to guess the most popular answers to questions to receive points.

The questions have been surveyed prior to the game and the most popular answers make it to the game board.

More points are awarded for guessing the more popular answer to the question.

For APC's version, students were asked to form teams of four prior to the event.

Each person participating received a ticket before the game started.

To determine who played, host and APC Senior Marketing and Advertising Coordinator Jeremy Davis drew tickets out of a bowl.

In total, six teams played in the three games.

One group, calling themselves the Dream Team, had high hopes for the night.

When asked if he thought they were going to win, Dream Team member Martin Luther replied, "Hell yeah!"

Luther and his teammates Vince Lewis, Murphy Calloway and Pearl Mayanja were lucky enough to get the chance to play, but unfortunately Luther's prediction didn't pan out.

"The game was rigged!" Luther joked after they lost in the third game of the night.

Davis reflected on the year with the APC.

"It's been a pretty good year with APC," he said. "We've gotten a lot of good feedback."

But the year isn't quite over for Davis and the rest of the APC.

During the Family Feud event, the APC was also promoting their upcoming concert at Swinney Recreation Center.

Headlining will be the hip-hop duo N.E.R.D., with special guest Clips. The show is April 11, doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for UMKC students. For tickets, call (816) 235-6222.
