The UMKC women's tennis team was singled out Saturday by Drake University, netting a 0-7 result.
Playing at the Clayview Country Club in Liberty, Mo., the Roos failed to win a singles match, but fared better in the doubles matches.
UMKC's sophomore Chelsea Horner and senior Emily Lindsey paired up in the number-one slot to defeat Amanda Aragon and Gabriela Demos 8-3. The second and third spots in the doubles line-up also posted the same 8-3 score - only it was in the Bulldogs' favor.
Having a strong day, Horner was the only UMKC player to win a set in the singles matches. Playing in the number four position, the Overland Park native fought her way to a respectable 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Lindsay, facing Drake's number two, managed to grab five games in a 6-3, 6-2 loss. Newcomer freshman Daniela Amelunge had her hands full in the top spot. The Bolivian held on for two games in the first set, but dropped the second in a straight 6-0.
The team now has a two-week pause before returning to competition on Feb. 28 against SIU Edwardsville, followed by a March 1 date with Kansas University. Both matches are on home territory.
