Three candidates were interviewed this week for the director of UMKC Affirmative Action and students were strongly encouraged to come out and participate in an open forum.
The candidates included Pamela J. Foster, Victor M. Holden and Alicia E. Santos.
Each candidate had their own day for a 50-minute open forum with the students.
"Your feedback in this selection process is important," Karen Dace, deputy chancellor for the Diversity Office, said in an announcement to all students.
In spite of the University of Missouri system-wide hiring freeze, this position has received an exemption because of its importance to students.
"It's one of several positions that meet the criteria to be exempt from the hiring freeze," said Carol Hintz, director of Human Resources. "This position is necessary for the university in order to maintain compliance with state and federal affirmative action."
A little about the candidates:
Pamela J. Foster is currently employed as associate director of Affirmative Action at Kansas State University (K-State) in Manhattan, Kan., and has been there since 2001.

Additionally, she received her master's degree in 2000 in business administration from K-State.
Now Foster is currently working on her doctorate in Industrial Organizational Psychology at K-State.
Foster also participates in a variety of leadership activities.

Holden is a certified cultural diversity trainer and a certified EEO complaint investigator. He also holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Criminology from Hampton University.
He holds an MSED in Counseling from Purdue University-Calumet.
