On Nov. 22, the Indian Student Association (ISA) produced a successful rendition of an Indian celebration entitled Surabhi.

Surabhi, originating from Hindu mythology, is a cow that granted humans their wishes.

In India during the Surabhi festivities, there is typically a wide array of fireworks. But because this event took place at the Pierson Auditorium, fireworks were a bit out of reach.

Though it predominately serves those of Indian heritage, the ISA is an all-inclusive organization on campus founded four years ago.

The event commenced with the American National Anthem and the Indian National Anthem.

At full capacity, Pierson Auditorium was filled with people at attention throughout the both songs.

Both graduate and undergraduate students participated in group and solo dances.

Usha Sunkara, a 22-year-old student and ISA group dancer, said the dancers practiced arduously.

"In a sense we worked harder, because we had schoolwork, but we participated and had fun," said Sunkara.

There were traditional Indian dance performances as well as Bollywood dance performances. Bollywood is a popular term for the Mumbai-based (formerly Bombay) Hindustani cinema.

Toward the end of the Surabhi festival, there was a fashion show of traditional and modern Indian trends.

The ISA contributed free Indian food and beverages immediately following the show.

Approximately 550 people attended this event.
