Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius made a short stop at UMKC Friday to energize Barack Obama campaigners and express support for Obama.

Even though the location of the conference changed twice to accommodate the size of the attendance, several people came to hear what McCaskill and Sebelius had to say.

By the time the conference started, 65 people were fit into a room designed to seat about 35 comfortably.

After a short introduction, Sen. McCaskill and Gov. Sebelius received a warm welcome.

McCaskill opened her speech by acknowledging both presidential candidates have been leading their campaigns with tax cut proposals.

"The real question is who they want to cut taxes for," she said.

After asking the audience who they thought John McCain would cut taxes for, she responded to her own question.

"Paris Hilton and Warren Buffet. The exact same people George Bush gave cuts to."

With the pace set at ease, Sen. McCaskill introduced Gov. Sebelius.

Sebelius began on a more serious tone.

"This is a state which could easily make the difference," Sebelius said. "[This election is] likely to rely on who comes out to vote and who gets the word out."

She said, with so few days left until the polls open, it is important for the Democratic street teams to get out and make as many contacts with voters as possible.

"None of this counts unless people come out and cast their votes for Obama and Biden," Sebelius said.

She followed with a short discussion about Internet and television polls.

"None of the polls count except the one on November 4th," she said.

Sebelius closed her speech by telling the audience why she felt Obama is a better presidential candidate.

"Barack Obama may have grown up in Hawaii, but he was raised by Kansas women."

Sen. McCaskill closed the conference by asking for a show of hands to see how many attendants were between 18 and 25 years of age.
