Cultural Surveillance: This new program series is hosted by the UMKC Department of Art and History and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.



Friday, Sept. 12

Master Class in Fiction with Robert Day: This Writer's Place Workshop is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Writer's Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave., $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers.

UMKC Buddhist groups: Kick-off night is from 6 to 9 p.m., in Royall Hall, room 111.

BridgeFest: Multiple musical performances start at 7 p.m., at the Beaumont Club, 4050 Pennsylvania Ave.

Second Friday Movie: Today's movie, On the Water Front, is showing at 1:30 p.m., at the Kansas City Public Library, Westport Branch, 118 Westport Rd.

Seventh Annual Car Show and Expo: The Church of Resurrection is hosting its annual car show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 136th Street and Roe Avenue.

High Aspirations: This program for African American males starts at 10 a.m., at the Kansas City Public Library, Lucile H. Bluford Branch, 3050 Prospect Ave.

Mark Lowrey and Shay Estes: Musical performance starts at 8 p.m., at Jardine's, 4536 Main St.



Sunday, Sept. 14

Bikers for Babies 2008 Kansas City Ride: Join these hometown heroes at 8 a.m., at the Kansas Speedway, 400 Speedway Blvd., Kansas City, Kan., to support the March of Dimes. Donations are more than welcome! (It's for a great cause.)

General Chaos: Missouri Families and General Order No. 11: Social discussion starts at 2 p.m., at the Kansas City Public Library, Central Branch, 14 W. 10th St.

Kansas City Reptile Show: All the scales are bared from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Overland Park, Kan., 87th Street and I-435, $5.
