The LGBT Office, located on the first floor of the University Center, serves as a place to go for all students on UMKC campus.
"The office isn't just for gay and lesbian students," said David Greene, student services coordinator and sponsor of the LGBT Office and Q&A. "We have computer access for students to do work, and it's also a great place to just relax, play games or just meet new people."
Greene has been the head of the LGBT organizations on campus since 2006.
Renee Schloss, sophomore and president of Q&A, was also at the social, handing out t-shirts bearing the organization's new slogan "Be Yourself."
Schloss expressed excitement for the events of the 2008-2009 school year.
"We have a lot of new ideas this year," said Schloss. "We are going to do a cabaret show in the fall, and a brand new event for the spring that will be a lot of fun."
According to its Web site, the mission of the LGBT Office and affiliated organizations is to "promote the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community at UMKC, and to actively promote an inclusive campus culture as an integral part of the university."
The first meeting for Q&A will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Aug. 28 in the LGBT office.
For information on upcoming events, visit the LGBT office web site at http://www.umkc.edu/lgbt.

What about the danger of diminished vision from too much bible reading?
What about the diseases missionaries bring back to the U. (Continued…)

Mary Jefferson,
I don't believe that homosexuality is a choice, it is an innate characteristic. If homosexuality can be chosen, then how did you make the decision to be straight? As a heterosexual male, I didn't choose, it was just the way I was born. (Continued…)

I don't believe that you chose your orientation, but I'm not convinced that you were born with it. There's a tremendous debate as to whether it is the result of nature or of nurture. (Continued…)

Mary Jefferson:
I do a lot of work in the HIV/AIDS community, and while there is a current rise in young homosexual males again, to say that it is nearly CONFINED to them is ignorant and completely wrong. (Continued…)

You express a great deal of knowledge, but you don't express much concern about how these diseases are spread. You will note that in my first letter, I did indicate that heterosexual promiscuity is also a factor (actually, a tremendous one) in the spread of STDs. (Continued…)

Mary,
The CDC must print its findings in journals and their findings in articles are under strict peer review. You are making up your sources (please list them). (Continued…)

I get some, but not all, of my information from Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council. There are numerous other organizations who are deeply concerned about the drift of society and who do research into these matters. (Continued…)
