If you have requested a transcript in the last couple of months, you will want to make sure your request went through the Registrar's office.

Because of a number of empty positions, including a then-vacant assistant registrar position, and the vast number of transcript requests received in December, the Registrar's office experienced a significant backlog of transcript requests, according to Registrar Doug Swink.

"During the month of December, that's our peak time for transcript requests. … They all come in at once," Swink said.

Ashley French, senior, biology and chemistry, requested her transcript be sent to four schools after grades were released at the end of the fall semester.

"In the middle of January, I received a notice from MU veterinary school of medicine that my application was deficient, missing my transcripts and had to be complete by Feb. 1 to be considered for a position," French said.

In addition to the high volume of requests, there were six other vacant positions, in addition to the assistant registrar position, Swink said.

"With being down six positions, not including [the assistant registrar] position, and still just trying to get through the day-to-day operations, that's why there was a slowness," he said.

The assistant registrar position was filled Jan. 7, Swink said, by Nicole Woolsey.

"We were actually down a full-time manager that would be over the transcripts' desk as well," Swink said. "So she's been able to come in and really bring a lot of experience and things to the office as far as overseeing that area."

The transcript requests are caught up now, Swink said, and there is no longer a backlog.

Swink?expressed his concerns about providing good customer service.

"I try to be very student-centered when it comes to this office, so that means not only through transcript requests but it also means through the registration process, through degree awarding, so all those things play into what a student's expectations are with this office," he said.

French said when she went to the Registrar's office, she found them very helpful.

"The Registrar's office was very polite in fixing the problem and sent the transcripts without additional charge," she said. "They happily faxed my transcripts to MU when I asked them."

Swink suggested if students have not verified their transcripts were sent, they should contact the Registrar's office to check the status.

Also, by the end of the spring semester, Swink said the Registrar's office hope to have a new option for students to obtain a transcript.

"In the next couple of months we are actually going to role out e-transcripts, which students will be able to go on via Pathway, sign on with their SSO and password and then request a transcript electronically," Swink said.

For more information on transcripts, contact the Registrar's office at 235-1213.
