Comedy City is the solution to your boring weekend.
Not only does Comedy City have a restaurant and bar, it also offers a variety of snacks and alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages while watching live improvisational comedy, on a stage just a few feet in front of you, and for a very affordable price.
Located at 300 Charlotte St., Comedy City has been in Kansas City since 1987. Looking at the outside, you can immediately tell you're in for something different.
The building is mainly black and the big marshmallow man from the movie "Ghostbusters" and the Batman logo are in plain sight, along with a background of high rise buildings to give it that city look.
Big yellow arrows guide you to the back entrance, where a ramped sidewalk is painted like a street leading up to the door.
Tickets are $10 Thursdays and $13 Fridays and Saturdays. After purchasing your ticket you can go downstairs to the bar or enter the theatre and choose a seat, where you can order from a waitress.
The seating is very cozy and perfect for couples. There are small tables between the theater seats with menus placed on them. Food prices are reasonable.
A small pizza is just $5, a hamburger is $3.75, popcorn is $2 and candy is $1.
Drinks aren't too bad either. You and some friends can get a pitcher of cold beer for $6.50, a glass of wine for $3.75, or if you prefer, a Pepsi for $1.50.
The theatre is relatively small and everyone can hear and get a good view of the performance. It is a family-appropriate atmosphere. This means there is no smoking allowed inside the theater, but smoking is allowed downstairs in the bar.
Once you get your snacks and are settled in, the good times begin.
One comedian comes out dressed as a referee and the other four comedians are dressed as opposing sports teams, with two in red jerseys and two in blue.
The show is set up like a game. The red team is the sharks and the blue team is the jets, with the audience members acting as judges.
