Men tee up top-four finish

The University of Missouri-Kansas City men's golf team played its way to a fourth-place finish at the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate, April 2-3 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City, La.

The Kangaroos were led by freshman Alex Hogben, who finished the event with a three-round total of 215.

Hogben, whose score was good for fourth place overall, was joined by juniors Stephen Clark and Brad Gershon and senior Alan Johnson in the top 25 individual scores. Clark finished in 15th place with a tally of 224. Gershon and Johnson tied for 23rd with 227 strokes played.

UMKC completed play with a total of 888 strokes on the par-72, 6,954-yard course. The Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs, led by senior Trey McNiell (216), took first place in the competition with a final mark of 879. Freshman Robert Lindstrom of Birmingham Southern University led all players with a three-round total of 209. Lindstrom's second-round total of 67 was the lowest single round score of the tournament.

Prior to the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate, the Kangaroos defeated North Dakota State University on March 10-11 in singles match play by winning six of the eight matches. The team also took 11th place at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational in Stevinson, Calif., March 26 and 27 with a 54-hole total of 925. Clark paced the team in this event with a three-round total of 222, finishing in a tie for eighth place.

The Kangaroos will resume competition in Kansas City April 9 and 10 at the Swope Memorial Invitational.
