Public Lecture: "African-American Language Identities: Contradictions and Conundrums": by Sonja L. Lanehart, the Brackenridge Endowed Chair of Literature and Humanities at the University of Texas-San Antonio. She is the author of "Sista, Speak! Black Women Kinfolk Talk about Language and Literacy" (2002) and editor of Sociocultural and Historical Contexts of African American English (2001). 111 Royall Hall, 7 p.m.

Gendered Health Disparities: Professor Maithe Enriquez will focus on the poor health outcomes African-American and Hispanic women face due to the unequal treatment associated with racial and ethnic disparities in health care. African American History and Culture House, 5245 Rockhill Road, 7 p.m.

Conservatory Wind Symphony: with conductor Steven D. Davis: White Hall, Performing Arts Center, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for the general public, $6 for seniors and free for students with a 24-hour advance reservation. Call 235-6222.

Film Screening and Reception: "Motherhood Manifesto": Only four countries in the world - Lesotho, Swaziland, Papua New Guinea and the United States - fail to provide paid maternity leave to all workers. Documentary delves into the topic of maternity leave in the United States. Alumni Room, U-Center, 7 p.m.
