Jonathan: McCain is too liberal for conservatives and too conservative for liberals. Despite his military record, he's become a lapdog for President Bush's new troop surge.
Dan: Has several Bush strategists and fundraisers in his camp. Probably the strongest in Republican field on national security, but can't count on 'Religious Right.'
Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.)
Jonathan: He is way too conservative for this country. After the reign of King Bush, even conservatives know he won't make it through the primaries.
Dan: Brownback calls himself a Reagan Republican and a compassionate conservative. When will Michael J. Fox and the professor come flying into this picture?
Newt Gingrich
Jonathan: Is he a Republican or Democrat? It's hard to tell.
Dan: Like Brownback, the former Speaker of the House seems to be stuck in 1994 with the 104th Congress. New book is riveting! Yawn.
Al Gore
Jonathan: Gore has potential to give Clinton a challenge during the primary, but his support mostly comes from celebrities who enjoyed 'An Inconvenient Truth.'
Dan: Good to see former vice president has found his way out of the Florida's election archives. Are we talking about winning an Oscar or the White House?
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)
Jonathan: I like how Obama is a fresh candidate, but his star will peak too soon. Clinton should save him as her running mate for the ultimate dream ticket.
Dan: Oprah's candidate of the month should be good for an early challenge. He'll soon find you can't court Hollywood and the Bible Belt at the same time.
John Edwards
Jonathan: Edwards has a nice lead before the primaries, but being John Kerry's running mate might damper his image in the eyes of middle America.
Dan: He has a two-year head start on the rest of the Democratic field. Unlike Clinton, Iraq debate won't saddle him.
