The African American Student Union (TAASU) kicked off the school year with a "Welcome Back Barbeque" last Saturday afternoon. UMKC students in attendance were treated to complimentary food and games. The annual event allows TAASU members to recruit new faces and promote awareness of the African-American community.
"We want everyone to know that we're not just open to black students," said LaCrecia Taylor, vice president of TAASU. "The 'Welcome Back Barbeque' was created so students can unify and [to] give people a chance to enjoy themselves. [TAASU] just wants to show support and love."
TAASU will hold its next meeting on Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the African-American History and Culture House (AAHCH), 5245 Rockhill Rd. - Jennifer Bhargava
