It was foam and lasers for the Activity & Program Council's (APC) "Welcome Week," their annual line of events at the beginning of the new school year.

APC hosted a foam dance and laser tag for UMKC students last week, among many other events, to kick off a yearlong effort at keeping students active with on-campus events.

Laser tag drew a large crowd last Tuesday at Pierson Auditorium. Danielle Croux, APC events coordinator, helped run the event.

"A lot more people showed up for laser tag than last year," said Croux. "The line was huge."

The interest in Welcome Week did not end at laser beams. Students lathered up last Thursday at the University Playhouse just off University Way.

"The foam dance is everyone's favorite event," said Croux. "Students really get excited for it and we always get a pretty big crowd."

Adults and youngsters alike got their groove on to the music stylings of DJ Kirby of Mix 93.3, who encouraged them to get dirty in a clean way on the dance floor.

Croux believes the events were successful.

"We try to let students know that we're here for them," said Croux. "After all, students are the ones paying for it with their activity fees. So, we try to use the money wisely and plan events that we think people will enjoy."

"The events were a good chance for students, especially freshmen, to meet each other," said Croux. - Jennifer Bhargava
