Women's basketball has high hopes

Last season, the UMKC women's basketball team had a record of 13-18. They also had five games under .500 shooting average. But the Lady Roos can't wait to hop back on the court and pounce on Summit League opponents. Senior guard Chazny Morris was selected to the Pre-Season Summit League first team and was picked to be player of the year.

For the UMKC women's basketball team, another season of basketball is quickly approaching. For Chazny Morris, it is her last basketball season. "I'm really excited for this year because it's my senior year," Morris said. "I want to go out on top, but the team has to move one goal at a time.

Two games, two overtimes, two 2-1 losses

Both UMKC's men's and women's soccer teams fell short of wins in overtime Saturday afternoon at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field. The teams put a great effort forward but couldn't commit the wins. The final tally in both matches was 2-1. The men started the day with a match against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.

Crown Center opens Ice Terrace

The Crown Center Ice Terrace has been a seasonal Kansas City staple since Nov. 26, 1973. Opening day this season is Friday, Nov. 6. There will be free skating from 6-9 a.m. with free coffee and bagels from Panera Bread. "There's something about being outside during the holidays," said Christ Ronan, communications manager for Crown Center.

Since the light heavyweight title fight between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua, UFC scoring judges have been criticized as unprofessional, lazy and inept. However, none of it is true. The bout on Oct. 24 was composed of the typical five rounds (five minutes each) in the UFC octagon.

Volleyball The Kangaroos dropped two Summit League matches, both 3-0, on the road this weekend. Friday night they took on North Dakota State University (NDSU). The victory improved NDSU's winning streak to 33 and broke UMKC's five-match streak. The next night, the Roos were shutout by South Dakota State University.
