PeaceWorks, politics and pizza

Many UMKC students have seen the protesters at 63rd Street and Ward Parkway. Those activists are part of PeaceWorks Kansas City, an organization dedicated to ending the production of all weapons of mass destruction. Last Tuesday, PeaceWorks held a Tax Day Pizza Press Party at Minsky's Pizza, 5105 Main St.

Bookup makes cheap textbooks available

An alternative has been found for students not wanting to pay hundreds of dollars for textbooks. It's significantly cheaper than UMKC's bookstore and Amazon and provides an opportunity for students to sell back their books for the same price for which they bought them.

Greens offer new jobs

After losing 195,000 jobs in 2008, Missouri is due for an economic boost. A group of panelists, hosted by the Show Me Your Solutions Coalition, agreed that the boost will happen through investment in "green" jobs. Green jobs mean clean energy and a reduced reliance on foreign oil.

Engineering students receive awards Two School of Computing and Engineering seniors majoring in civil engineering were presented awards during a visit by Blaine Leonard, president-elect of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
