With the presidential election upon us, democracy will once again be put to the test as Americans head to the polls. The most obvious flaw with our system is the vast majority of citizens will flock to the voting booths to cast ballots for preselected bureaucrats who belong to one of the two major parties that have dominated our government for far too long.
Voting is both a right and a privilege. For all our national, state and local governments do to protect us and provide for us, the least we can give back to them are our personal opinions. The problem with voter turnout in this country, though, is that elections are seen by too many people as more of a boring survey on seemingly irrelevant political matters than a necessary and meaningful civic duty.
