Young Artist Program of?fers professional experience

The UMKC Young Artist Program gives voice students from the conservatory an opportunity to professionally sing for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. The students sign a contract with both the school and Lyric to sing chorus and small roles at the company, and principal roles at the school.

Annual Gay Cabaret drags for cause

The LGBT department, headed by David Greene, held its annual Gay Cabaret on Thursday night in Pierson Auditorium. The performance benefited a local homeless shelter, with canned food donations brought to the event by the audience. The night began amidst chaos backstage as the performers were preparing for the event.

The displacement camps in war-torn northern Uganda are not a pretty sight. Last Friday, sophomore Alex Gamble, education, organized the Invisible Children event so people on campus would have one less excuse not to look. Gamble came up with this idea after being in the African nation of Uganda.

'Body of Lies' tries to tackle this tough subject once again with mixed results. The film follows Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) as a CIA operative in Jordan on an endless hunt for the terrorist group behind several civilian bombings.

Latin music sizzles

Monchy and Alexandra, a Latin music duo, recently released their album entitled "Monchy & Alexandra En Vivo Desde Bellas Artes." The title means: Monchy and Alexandra Live In Concert from the Fine Arts Theater, (in Puerto Rico). Monchy and Alexandra are a pair of talented Bachata artists.
