Coffee can be made into a special, complex treat with a combination of steam and pressure. It's called espresso. When espresso is combined with frothy, steamed milk, it becomes a new creation altogether, the latte. It can be fun to rediscover the basics of coffee specialty drinks.
I planned on reviewing a different CD this week, but I make exceptions for genius. New Bloods' "The Secret Life" is an absorbing and rich record. The female punk trio features bass, drums and violin, masterfully turning in 11 tight, ferocious songs that have single-handedly eroded my ambivalent disposition to punk.

As Kansas City Repertory Theatre patrons found out Monday, April 14, the quilts directly reflected the vibrant and strong women creating them.
The West Side was treated to live local cultural performances of art, poetry, dance, music and drama at Breaking Piñatas on Thursday, April 17, when students and social activists presented their work at Guadalupe Center, 1015 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez.
