Boyer wins, places and shows at Kansas Invitational

Shrugging off adversity faced earlier in the week upon the dismissal of former head coach Theo Hamilton, the UMKC track and field squad represented well on Saturday afternoon at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence. "I thought the team was resilient this week considering all that has happened," said Ron Aulet, Assistant Athletics Director for Operations and Facilities.

The closest thing the UMKC men's basketball team has to a rivalry hits town this week when Oral Roberts University shuffles into Kansas City Jan. 24 for a face-off with the Kangaroos at Kemper Arena. Since the beginning of the Demopoulos/Zvosec era in the 2000-01 season, the Roos' record with the Golden Eagles stands at 7-8.

Bison end Kangaroo win streak 90-82

Slow starts have been the norm for the UMKC men's basketball team in the 2007-08 season and Saturday night was no different in Fargo, N.D. Playing a Summit League game against the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Bison, the Kangaroos fell behind 8-0 to start the game.

Opening the Summit League basketball season with four straight losses was tough for the UMKC men's basketball team to swallow. A victory on Jan. 12 against Southern Utah University silenced talk about that distinction. On Thursday night, yet another monkey was ripped from the backs of the Kangaroo players.

North Dakota State downs UMKC 80-62

The UMKC women fell victim to a 41-point second half stampede in an 80-62 loss to the Bison of North Dakota State University (NDSU) Saturday afternoon in Fargo, N.D. Four players scored in double figures for the Bison, who were led by junior center Jerri Penley's 23 points and 12 rebounds.

High jumper ponders formula for success

As a self-proclaimed "academically oriented kid," pre-dental chemistry major Colin Smith, a senior, walked onto the UMKC track and field team his freshman year primarily to meet new people and establish contacts through the university. The result from his effort turned into a two-fold blessing.
