New Student Union referendum passes narrowly

Election Director alleges irregularities

By a majority of 39 votes, UMKC students said they were in favor of building a new, $45 million Student Union, anticipated to open in 2011. Word of the results of the electronic voting spread quickly after the polls closed at 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16. The three days of polling gathered a total of 1,533 ballots, with 786 in favor and 747 against.

Laptop stolen from student's hands on campus

Students who often sit in hallways outside their classrooms using laptops may want to find a safer place to work. Senior Amy Bledsoe, communication studies, was using her own laptop on the first floor of Haag Hall when a man grabbed her laptop from her hands and ran out the door.

Health Sciences short on technology

When the Health Sciences Building (HSB) opened in September, nursing and pharmacy students finally had a building they could call home. But having only 30 computers and two printers for the entire building has created a headache for some students. "When they did the building plans 10 years ago, they only put one computer lab in the [HSB] with 30 computers to service over 1,000 students that are in that building, both the nursing students and pharmacy students," said Student Senator Nicole Stinner, pharmacy.

Stormin' Norman enters College Basketball Hall of Fame

The state of Missouri, and Kansas City in particular, stood proud and tall in recognition of one of their favorite sons. Former University of Missouri - Columbia head basketball coach Norm Stewart received what many felt was long overdue recognition for service to his state, to the Midwest region and to his chosen profession: induction to the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Administrator bolts for Sprint The university has another administrative vacancy to fill. Sarah Lubischer resigned her post as director of Student Life, effective Nov. 21. "My decision to leave was of a personal nature between my family and I and not one I prefer to comment on for a news story," Lubischer said.

Nov. 9 9:14 a.m. Larceny - The victim reported leaving her portable DVD player, DVDs, CDs and case unattended at Miller Nichols Library and returning to find them missing. The incident occurred between 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9 a.m. Nov. 9. 12:44 p.m. Injury - The victim reported slipping and falling on some loose leaves while exiting a taxi on the street in front of the School of Dentistry.
