A new 'U' meets opposition

UMKC is lying to students about the cost and features of a new student union, according to an ad-hoc campus group. Students for University Progress, a coalition of students who oppose the proposed student union, has launched a campaign against the initiative.

Even before you step out of your car, you can hear the humming of a small engine nearby. This turns out to be a tiller. Music is blaring out of the speakers provided by local Disney Radio station KPHN 1190 AM. There is a canopy set up with boxes of tulip bulbs for sale for 50 cents each.

Groundbreaking library

The golden shovels dug into the earth and applause broke out among the 150 people present. The Miller Nichols Library expansion was officially under way. On a joyous and sunny afternoon, Jeanette Nichols, a trustee of The Miller Nichols Charitable Foundation and director of The Miller and Jeanette Nichols Foundation, welcomed the guests.

Women's Center receives grant to fund violence prevention

The UMKC Women's Center is the only center in a Missouri university to have its grant that helps violence prevention efforts refunded. The Women's Center originally received the grant in October 2005. It came from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Violence Against Women.

Oct. 27 3:20 a.m. Traffic Arrest - Officers arrested a suspect who was driving under the influence of alcohol at Cleaver II and Troost boulevards.
