Conservative columnist Ann Coulter had a bad week. The unapologetically outspoken political livewire made remarks to the American Conservative Union at the Political Action Conference on March 2 that many of us undoubtedly find offensive and particularly distasteful.
The antiquated educational system in America has, by and large, failed its pupils. For the past four semesters, I've been pleased with the pace of college. UMKC has offered many fascinating classes and provided above-average professors well-versed in their respective disciplines.

It's not for me to tell you how to vote - that's something each of you will have to decide for yourself. The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) held its annual state meeting in St. Louis on Feb. 24. Once again, state funding for higher education was an issue. In her address to the meeting, State Senator Rita Days summarized the problem. There is no constitutional obligation for the state to fund higher education.
"UMKC has a very good record on academic freedom. I have written some controversial articles and legislators had some objection to them; however, I was supported by the senate, dean, and the chancellor. An academic institution cannot survive without academic freedom.
