Roos defeat Centenary Snapping a six-game losing streak, the women's basketball team defeated Centenary Ladies at Shreveport, La. on Thursday, Feb. 10. Coming off a 58-51 loss to Chicago State on Feb. 5 at Swinney Recreation Center, the Kangaroos recorded their first win since mid-January.
Roos regain footing, still in first UMKC bounced back Monday night with a non-conference win against Utah Valley State University, 84-77. Though there were some tense moments in the final minutes, the victory did dampen the pain of an improbable loss to Chicago State two nights before.
This weekend, the UMKC rifle team competed in Sectionals held at University of Wisconsin in Osh Kosh, Wisc. Head Coach Mike Hornbeck, who has been confident that the team would do well all along, was not disappointed. The team placed first in both events. The team scored a 2298 total in the small bore event and 2298 in the air rifle.
Even George Brett wants to ditch Kauffman Stadium. On his morning sports talk show, Brett was just as stunned to hear Friday's announcement that Royals owner David Glass would be announcing his opposition to plans for a downtown baseball stadium. I know this because that's what he said.
Soccer signs two The UMKC soccer team has signed two players to National Letters Of Intent. Midfielder Garrett Guthrie, from Wichita, Kan., joins the Kangaroos a Maize High School captain and most valuable player his senior year. His career there led to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America all-Midwest Region team honor in 2004 and an all-region selection.
