Kansas City film enthusiasts will have the opportunity to see work from local area talent at the 8th annual Kansas City Filmmakers' Jubilee. The non-profit organization has always worked very closely with UMKC and other area colleges, and this year will feature a number of student entries.
Students, communication studies faculty and the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee committee are all hopeful about the attendance of film enthusiasts and filmmakers at the film festival. However, the issue of appealing to a wider audience is uncertain. Some of the more casual Kansas City moviegoers perceive the Tivoli and the festival as intimidating and obscure, somewhere they can't go to watch a "normal" movie.
With an abracadabra and magical poof, Tom Stolberg brings his group, Opera Kadopera, to new audiences in Kansas City. The newfound company makes opera music understandable and "accessible to the average joe on the street," Stolberg said, planting the seeds for tomorrow's opera audiences.
Four people in the Department of English are taking last week's "Literature for Life" theme literally by tattooing words from a short story on their bodies. Two students and two professors have volunteered to "become words" from "Skin," a 2,095-word short story by Brooklyn writer Shelley Jackson.
UMKC Theatre presents William Shakespeare's "Henry V" from April 8-18 at Spencer Theatre in the Performing Arts Center. "Henry V" is set during The Hundred Years War (1337-1453). Henry V, inheriting the English crown from Henry IV, lays claim to the French crown through Edward III, his great-grandfather.

With his massive brow and anvil-shaped chin he looks like a cro-magnon man in modern dress. Great qualities when playing a caveman as in 1983's "Quest for Fire," but somewhat limiting otherwise.
With every new year on the UMKC campus there comes a wave of students and their cars. In this case, the beginning of the fall semester 2003 brought an all-new 2003 Audi S4 to campus. The student who owns the car prefers to remain anonymous because of an incident involving the car being tampered with earlier this year.
